Family Focus, the child welfare agency founded in Evanston 44 years ago, has merged with the Chicago Child Care Society.

The merger was first reported this week by Chicago Business.

The merged organization, with 44 board members, 22 from each group, plans to operate under the Family Focus name.

Dara Munson, president and CEO of the combined organization, previously headed the Chicago Child Care Society. She takes over from Merri Ex who headed Family Focus until her recent retirement.

Family Focus, in addition to its center in Evanston, also operates centers in Aurora, Cicero, Highland Park and Glendale Heights as well as on Chicago’s west and south sides. The Chicago Child Care Society operates primarily on Chicago’s south side.

Munson told Chicago Business her three goals for the year include expanding services offered to families, identifying new revenue streams and finding a new headquarters.
