Fifth prospect seeks aldermanic appointment

A fifth person has submitted a request to Evanston's mayor to be appointed to fill the upcoming 9th Ward aldermanic vacancy.

Schona Buranda, program director of outreach and partnerships for the Good News Partners affordable housing organization in Rogers Park, will join four previously announced candidates for the appointment at a forum to be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at the Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave.

Buranda previously was executive director of the Evanston Community Development Corporation and is a member of the city's Minority, Women and Evanston Business Enterprise Development Committee.

The other would-be aldermen are Dan Coyne, Shawn Jones, Mary McAuley and Brian Miller.

Alderman Coleen Burrus is about to resign from the position to take a new job with Princeton University in New Jersey. Under the City Council's rules, Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl will appoint a replacement to fill out the term until the next aldermanic election in April 2017.
