The final phase of the Chicago Avenue/Sheridan Road Corridor Project will begin the week of June 25 with construction activities on the west and south sides of Sheridan Road, from Lincoln Street to Isabella Street/Ridge Avenue.

The entire project is expected to be complete by the end of October 2018.

The contractor anticipates shifting traffic to the east and north sides of Sheridan Road along this section of roadway on June 27, weather permitting.

During construction, one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on Sheridan Road. Once construction on the west side is complete, the contractor will proceed with concrete work on the east side of Sheridan Road.

Traffic will then be switched onto the west and south sides of the street. After the concrete work is complete, roadway rehabilitation and reconstruction will follow from Lincoln Street to Ridge Avenue. Construction activities will create some inconveniences for the abutting residents, but workers will attempt to minimize these issues.

Water main installation on Sheridan Road from Lincoln Street to Isabella Street/Ridge Avenue was completed in the first week of June 2018. The project was then suspended for two weeks to accommodate Northwestern University’s graduation ceremony.

The City of Evanston began Chicago Avenue/Sheridan Road Corridor Project improvements in April 2017. The Chicago Avenue portion and Sheridan Road, from Chicago/Sheridan to Lincoln Street, were completed last year.

This project includes roadway resurfacing and reconstruction, a new protected bike lane, replacement of curb and gutter, traffic signal modernization, installation of new water main, storm sewer and drainage structures, pavement markings and landscaping.

City officials say the project will make downtown Evanston and NU campus areas safer for bicyclists and pedestrians, while improving traffic flow and traffic safety.

The contractor for this roadway project is Plote Construction, Inc., located at 1100 Brandt Dr., Hoffman Estates.

The City has retained Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. to monitor the project.
