Evanston Firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a single-family residence at 2028 Lincoln St. about 8 p.m. Sunday,

Division Chief Kimberly Kull says first-responding companies found heavy black smoke coming from the first floor of the three-story home.

Kull says those crews pulled two lines and quickly extinguished the fire, keeping it from spreading beyond the first floor.

One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. There were no reported civilian injuries.

Fire units from several neighboring communities also responded to assist.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
