A fire that was reported shortly before 1 p.m. has destroyed a garage behind a building on Church Street west of Darrow Avenue in Evanston.

The garage was located behind a multi-family building at 1810 Church St. and was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene.

Smoke rises from behind buildings on Church Street as firefighters battle the garage fire.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Only fragments of the garage roof remained by the time firefighters got the blaze under control.

A fire investigator has been called to the scene to try to determine how the fire started.
