Fire in a third-floor apartment forced about 100 residents and staff out of a six-story apartment building late Monday afternoon.

No one was injured.

Some residents got out on their own, others at the Greenwood Care mental health facility at 1406 Chicago Ave. had to be helped out by Evanston firefighters.

Shift Chief Tim Migon tells Evanston Now that the 5 p.m. fire was put out quickly, although there was some smoke in the building.

Firefighters had to check to make sure everyone was indeed out safely.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
