House fire at 2554 Lawndale. (EFD photo)

Evanston fire crews were called to the scene of a fire in a three-unit row house at 2554 Lawndale Ave. about 10:40 this morning.

There were no immediate reports of injuries, but traffic was blocked on Central Street near the fire scene.

Electric power to the home had to be shut off as a result of damage from the fire.

Fire units from Skokie and Wilmette were called in to assist Evanston firefighters.

But those extra units were returning to their quarters by about 11:20 a.m.

Central Street was reopened to traffic about 11:40 a.m. and most fire crews had departed by about 12:20 p.m.

Update: Fire Division Chief Kimberly Kull says the fire had spread to the attic and basement of the home by the time crews arrived and the residents were displaced, but no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
