An early morning fire today damaged a home undergoing renovation at 1919 Oakton St. in Evanston.

Evanston Fire Division Chief Dwight Hohl says the fire was reported at 4:57 a.m. and the first crew arriving on the scene at the single-story home found the kitchen ablaze.

Hohl says fire crews managed to limit the fire to the kitchen. No one was living in the home and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Police blocked traffic on Oakton Street between Dodge Avenue and McCormick Boulevard until sometime after 6 a.m. while fire crews were on the scene.
