The fire, which broke out around 7 p.m., reportedly started when a fire in a barbecue grill in the back yard got out of control.

Division Chief Tom Janetske says the first engine responding to the scene found smoke and flames extending up the rear of the home and into the interior through a second floor window.

Traffic was blocked off on South Boulevard near Judson by the fire trucks, engines and ambulances called to the scene. Fire units from Northfield, Skokie, Wilmette and Winnetka were called in to back up Evanston units.

There were no reports of injuries from the blaze, but Janetske says the fire did about $200,000 worth of damage and temporarily displaced the home’s four residents.
