Evanston Fire Chief Greg Klaiber says fire crews managed to contain the fire to the basement, and the two residents at home when the fire was discovered about 8:30 a.m. got out of the building safely.

Traffic on Sheridan Road was rerouted while fire crews were on the scene.

Klaiber says no one was injured in the fire, but the home’s residents will be displaced temporarily.

Damage is estimated at about $50,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
