In a delayed report, we’ve learned that Evanston firefighters defeated the police softball crew in last Sunday’s “Guns and Hoses” tournament at Robert Crown Park.

The firefighters beat the police 8-7 in the charity event which raised $800 for the Special Olympics.

Partisans of the police team explained the loss by saying some of their starting players were unavailable for the game because of a major crime investigation underway at the time.
