Five runners from Evanston advanced out of the USATF qualifying track meet held Saturday and Sunday in Lisle.
Reggie Murphy, Malachi Adams, Brad Garron, Roland Amerteifio and B.J. Bamgbose all earned the right to compete in the Region 7 Junior Olympics meet set for July 12-13 in Huntington, Ind.
Murphy and Adams competed in the 17-18 year-old division. Murphy placed third in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 10.87 seconds, while Adams qualified in the same race with a time of 11.10, also a personal best. The top eight finishers automatically advanced.
In the 15-16 division, Garron qualified in three events. He placed 2nd in both the 400 (51.16) and 200 (22.76) and 3rd in the 100 (11.45), racking up personal bests in both the 100 and 400.
Amarteifio claimed first place in the high hurdles in 15.76, with teammate Bamgbose second in 16.28.
