Evanston Police have a man in custody who crashed a car into a building at 2401 Main St. about 8:30 this morning after fleeing from police who tried to stop his car outside the Chase Bank branch at 635 Chicago Ave.

Police were called to the bank by employees arriving for work who suspected the man, and two companions in the car, were planning to hold up the bank.

The employees told police the people in the car were acting suspiciously and one of them appeared to pull a ski mask over his face.

Police reportedly also have a woman who’d gotten out of the car in custody and are seeking another man who was a passenger in the vehicle.

Traffic is blocked on Main Street near Fowler at this hour as a result of the crash.

Update 9:30 a.m.: Main Street now has been reopened to traffic, and police have taken into custody, at the Walgreens in the same shopping center as the bank, a man they suspect was the third person in the car.

Update 9:38 a.m.: The driver of the car has been taken to Evanston Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
