Activists from the Illinois Public Interest Research Group plan to lobby shoppers in Evanston Sunday about what they argue are wasteful federal food subsidies “that help make sugary, fatty foods cheaper than healthier alternatives.”

The activitss plan to set up outside the Whole Foods Market at Chicago Avenue and Church Street from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. and urge shoppers to pressure U.S. Rep Jan Schakowsky of Evanston to cosponsor H.R. 2487, a bill the group says would reform agricultural subsidies it claims now promote less healthy foods and contribute to the obesity epidemic.
