Forbes magazine is out with a new ratings guide that pegs Northwestern University as the best college in the Midwest.

The magazine ranked the University of Chicago second and Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. third.

All three schools cost more than $50,000 a year in tuition and fees to attend.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was the only public college in Illinois on the list. It was ranked 19th.

A nationwide college ranking list Forbes published this summer placed Northwestern 18th.
