Update 2:30 p.m.: Four residents of a home at 1216 South Boulevard in Evanston were displaced after a fire broke out this afternoon in the basement of the house.

The fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. and was extinguished about a half hour later.

Fire Chief Brian Scott says no one was injured in the blaze in the one-and-a-half story bungalow-style home, and the family’s two cats were rescued.

Fire investigators have been called in to try to determine the cause of the blaze.

Traffic on Asbury Avenue was blocked from Oakton Street to South Boulevard by fire equipment
