Evanston police say they arrested four teenage boys last night and recovered a cell phone one of the youths had grabbed from a man’s hands.

Police Commander Tom Guenther says a witness who saw the incident called police, who found the victim in the 1000 block of Grove Street.

He told officers he’d been walking in the 1500 block of Maple Avenue about 6:40 p.m. when the four youths, 15 and 16 years old, approached, and one asked if he could use the victim’s cell phone.

After the victim said no, the youths started to walk off, but one returned and yanked the phone out of the victim’s hand and ran off westbound.

Guenther says responding officers found the quartet in an alley off the 1400 block of Ridge Avenue.

When asked about the incident, Guenther says, they made admissions that led to the recovery of the phone and were identified as the thieves by the victim.
