Evanston health officials reported four new COVID-19 cases among city residents today while state health officials announced 1,834 new cases across Illinois.

With 217 tests reported in Evanston today the positive rate here was 1.8%. With 46,006 tests reported across the state, the statewide positive rate today was 4%, essentially matching the seven-day average.

Evanston’s total case count now stands at 919 and the city death toll remained unchanged today at 71 — the same number it’s been at for more than a month.

Statewide the total number of cases topped 200,000 for the first time — reaching 200,427. There were 24 more deaths across the state today for a total of 7,696.

Chicago reported 383 new cases today for a total of 64,994 and five more deaths for a total of 2,817.

Suburban Cook County had 361 new cases for a total of 48,794 and four additional deaths for a total of 2,126.

Today’s new cases in Evanston were evenly split between the city’s two ZIP Codes.
