Evanston health officials reported four new COVID-19 cases today as Illinois continued an uptick in cases that’s seen new case numbers in four digits most days for more than two weeks.

Evanston’s case count now totals 850, but the death toll here has remained unchanged at 71 for two weeks.

Chicago reported 365 more cases today for a total of 58,445. Chicago reported six more COVID-19 deaths today for a total of 2,747.

Suburban Cook County reported 251 additional cases today for a total of 42,966. It had eight more deaths for a total of 2,075.

Across the state there were 1,532 more cases today for a total of 168,457. There were 18 more deaths for a total of 7,385.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported test results on 44,330 people today, the second highest daily number on record. The positive rate for today’s test results was 3.5% compared to a seven-day average positive rate of 3.4%

The IDPH reported results for 205 Evanston residents today and said three tested positive for a positive rate of 1.5%.

State officials today said four downstate counties are “considered to be at a warning level” because of signs of increased transmission. Adams, LaSalle, Peoria and Randolph counties are said to seeing “outbreaks assocated with business and risky behavior.”
