If there are cars parked on your block inhibiting plowing during this snow emergency, you might tell the owners about the free-parking opportunity at Evanston’s three major downtown self-park garages.

Beginning tonight (Wednesday) at 5 p.m., the gates will swing open at the Sherman Plaza, Maple Avenue, and Church Street garages and will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.

No need to take a ticket. Just drive in, park your car, and leave.

City officials contend that this voluntary removal of cars from Evanston streets dramatically improves the efficiency of the plowing operations.

What’s more, by parking in the garage, you no longer have to worry about moving your car from one side of the street to the other to meet those opposite-side-of-the-street snow-removal regulations.
