The “Destination: Healthy Skin” recreational vehicle will be parked in downtown Evanston for three hours on Saturday, July 28, offering education on sun protection and free, private, full-body skin assessments in just 10 minutes.

The RV will be located at 1706 Maple Ave. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Update 7/20/18 3 p.m.: For a while today, the organizers moved the planned location of the event to the McGaw YMCA, 1000 Grove St. But they’ve now moved it back to Maple Avenue.

Skin cancer continues to be the most common form of cancer in the U.S., and diagnoses are rising. It is estimated that 2,980 new cases of melanoma, one of the most dangerous forms of skin cancer, will be diagnosed in Chicago this year, and one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70.

During the event trained pharmacists and dermatologists will provide education on sun protection; the effects of medication on sun sensitivity, self-detection techniques, and treatment recommendations. They will also distribute sunscreen samples.

The event is sponsored by Walgreens and the Skin Cancer Foundation.
