Evanston residents have been invited to two events Saturday that involve free food.

First is the annual Ice Cream Social sponsored by the Evanston History Center from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dawes House, 225 Greenwood St.

Attendees can watch Kevin Kelly’s magic show and listen to music provided by the Ridgeville Band.

Also, there will be free admission to the Dawes House exhibit of fashion accessories, “The Finishing Touch: Evanston Accessorized.”

Then, just a few blocks away on the campus of Northwestern University, residents can attend the school’s annual Community Picnic, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the east lawn of the Norris University Center at 1999 Campus Drive.

Both events happen annually in the summertime, but not always on the same day.

The weatherman is predicting a high of 89 degrees with rain in the morning, tapering off in the afternoon, but he’s been known to be wrong in the past.
