The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for freezing rain Saturday afternoon and evening.

Freezing drizzle or light freezing rain is expected that could add up to one-tenth of an inch of ice between 1 and 9 p.m., the weather service says.

Difficult travel conditions are possible due to icy roads.

Edgar Cano of Evanston’s Public Works Agency says it appears we’re likely to escape most of the storm with probably only a trace to 0.02 inches of ice accumulating here.

Cano says that salt residue remaining on the pavement “should help battle these conditions,” but that city staff will monitor the situation and respond as needed.
