The annual sidewalk sale in downtown Evanston had some new features today — including a giant chess board in Fountain Square where visitors could test their skill against friends or strangers.

While lots of folks checked out the deeply discounted sale items that merchants had brought out onto the sidewalk, others enjoyed musical performances in the square.

Performers included blues guitarist Meisha Herron and the Swat Team Singers, directed by Mike O’Mara.

Shoppers could also purchase one-of-kind art from local artists set up along Sherman Avenue.

The sidewalk sale wraps up on Sunday.
