An estimated 300 people, most of them high school students, gathered in Fountain Square in downtown Evanston Friday afternoon for a rally to protest the lack of progress toward stopping climate change.

It was part of a global day of climate protests that organizers estimated turned out four million people in thousands of cities and towns worldwide.

Police blocked traffic through Fountain Sqyare for about two hours while the demonstration continued.
