Gunshot victim autopsied

A county medical examiner’s spokesman this afternoon said an autopsy has been completed on the body of a man found dead on Evanston’s lakefront Sunday.

But the spokesman said an official cause of death won’t be announced until police finish their investigation of the case.

Authorities say the body was fully clothed but had no identity papers when police arrived at the scene late Sunday morning in response to a 911 call from a resident of the 900 block of Edgemere Court.

The body was reportedly found on rocks by the shore, partially submerged in the water.

Evanston Police Commander Tom Guenther says the body had a gunshot wound to the head and a revolver was found at the scene.

Though the investigation is continuing, Guenther says it appears the incident may have been a suicide.
