Evanston Mayor Steve Hagerty joined mayors from throughout the continent yesterday in signing the Chicago Climate Charter, a first-of-its-kind charter on climate change.
His signature committed Evanston to address climate action at the local level by reducing greenhouse gas emissions while expanding economic opportunities and quality of life.
The signing took place at the Global Covenant of Mayors North American Climate Summit hosted by the City of Chicago, which featured former President Barack Obama as one of the speakers.
This year, Mayor Hagerty also committed to the Sierra Club’s Mayors for 100% Clean Energy initiative, supporting a community-wide transition to 100 percent renewable energy.
