In an outreach to the community, the Evanston police department has scheduled a “Coffee with a Cop” event for Sept. 17 at a Dempster Street coffee shop.

The event will be held at Perla Café, 1813 Dempster St., from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The community policing activity is designed to enable citizens to bond with their local police officers in a casual setting, as opposed to a stressful moment when the officer is about to hand you a ticket for breaking the law.

The department encourages residents to watch a YouTube video that highlights the community policing initiative.
