A Hazel Crest man has been charged with first degree murder and aggravated robbery in the fatal beating of a Rogers Park man on Howard Street in Evanston.
Evanston police say Brandon Lee Allen Hinton, 26, of 17823 Stonebridge Drive in Hazel Crest, has confessed to being the person who approached John Costulas, 61, as he was walking eastbound near the gas station 555 Howard St. at 5:20 a.m. on Sept. 2.
Police say Hinton without provocation struck Costulas in the head, causing him to collapse and fall to the ground, and that Hinton then grabbed $10 from the victim’s pants pocket, before walking away, leaving Costulas, who wore hearing aids and walked with a cane, bleeding and unconscious.
Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther says a second man, seen on surveilance videos walking with Hinton at the time of the attack, “did not develop as a suspect at this time.”
Guenther says an anonymous tip received on Monday led to the identification of Hinton as a suspect in the case. The North Region Major Crimes Task Force assisted Evanston police in the investigation.
Hinton is scheduled to appear in Skokie district court at 9 a.m. on Oct. 14.
Hazel Crest = Evanston??
So much for all of you people screaming in past posts on this story about how violent the citizens of Evanston are becoming and how incompetent Evanston law enforcement is. The only thing 'Evanston' about this story is it happened on the fringe border with Chicago.
Would be nice if all the haters would slow down and wait for the true facts to come out on some of these stories. But that would take all of the fun out of your lunacy.
Feel free to start complaining about the violent criminals from other towns that come into Evanston to do their dirty work.
