Evanston police say workers on a curb replacement project in northwest Evanston uncovered four tombstones this morning.

Commander James Pickett says the workers for Bolder Contractors were breaking up old curbing in front of 3012 Park Place when they spotted the headstones.

The grave markers were positioned face down, and Pickett says it appears they may have been deliberately used in a previous construction project.

He says there’s no indication the area had been used as a grave site, and no human remains were located there, but the incident remains under investigation.
