A jury today in Skokie district court convicted Brandon L. Hinton of Hazel Crest of first degree murder in the death of a man attacked on Howard Street in Evanton two years ago.
John Costulas of Chicago, who wore hearing aids and walked with a cane, was attacked as he was walking eastbound in the 500 block of Howard Street on Sept. 2, 2011 about 5:20 a.m. he was knocked to the ground, robbed and left on the ground unconscious and bleeding.
He died of his injuries eight days later at St. Francis Hospital.
Police arrested and charged Hinton with the crime on Sept. 12, 2011.
During a videotaped interrogation by police played at the trial, Hinton said of his victim, “I didn’t want him to die.”
Hinton’s trial began on Monday. Judge Garritt E. Howard, who presided at the trial, is scheduled to sentence Hinton on Oct. 22.
