Evanston police have charged a Bellwood man with drunk driving and possession of heroin after he was involved in a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Davis Street Saturday morning.

Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says 25-year-old Timothy L. Hester Jr. rear-ended a southbound car at the intersection shortly after 8 a.m. and then kept heading southbound on Ridge, despite having a flat tire.

He pulled off onto Ridge Court about three-quarters of a mile south of the accident scene and persuaded a resident there to help him change the tire.

When police arrived, Dugan says, they found an open container of alcohol in the car along with 13 grams of heroin.

The 69-year-old Chicago woman driving the car Hester hit complained of pain and was transported by Fire Department ambulance to Evanston Hospital.

Hester now is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence, felony possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver.
