The Thanksgiving traffic safety enforcement program by Evanston Police netted dozens of arrests and citations for a variety of offenses.

The program, funded by a state grant includes special enforcement actions designed to crack down on drunk driving and failure to use safety belts.

Police report the following results from the program, which ran from Nov. 14 to 27:

  • 40 safety belt citations
  • 3 DUI arrests
  • 2 felony arrests
  • 4 suspended/revoked licenses
  • 9 uninsured motorists

  1. Holiday crackdown

I really wish the police would crack down on people driving and talking on their cell phones. Not only would it make the street safer, but it would be a great source of revenue!
