Downtown Evanston is full of holiday shoppers this evening after Santa arrived in town on a city fire truck.

The traditional Fountain Square ceremony expanded to fill the intersection at Davis Street and Sherman Avenue this year as several hundred people turned out to listen to carols and have a chance for the kids to meet Santa or Mrs. Claus.

The stroller brigade was out in full force for the ceremony.

Santa got some practice for his chimney act getting down from the fire truck.

With the tree lit, Santa has headed to Davis Street and Maple Avenue to meet kids outside Bennison's Bakery, while Mrs. Claus is greeting visitors at Bravo Cucina Italiana at 1701 Maple Ave.
