A rain storm that rolled across town Friday evening knocked out power to hundreds of Evanston residents, as well as to movie-goers at the Century Theater downtown.
Fans who were in the midst of watching the debut showing of “The Dark Knight,” the latest installment of the Batman film series, had a darker experience than they’d anticipated when the screen went black.
The theater reportedly issued rain checks to disappointed patrons, but with the film sold out and subsequent performances delayed for hours, hundreds were left waiting for a chance to see the picture, which was shot in Chicago.
Commonwealth Edison said the power failure affected at least 800 customers across the mid-section of Evanston.
