Evanston police say a man returning to his home Sunday night was confronted by two men armed with handguns who forced him inside and demanded money and drugs.

The incident happened about 9:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of Monroe Street.

Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says the two men fled the home and drove off. Police spotted the car heading south toward the Chicago border, Parrott says, but were unable to stop it. The car continued south into West Rogers Park and was eventually discovered abandoned in the 3000 block of West Jerome Avenue.

Evanston and Chicago police searched the area but were unable to locate the men.

Parrott says Evanston police are continuing to investigate the incident.
