Evanston police are investigating a reported a home invasion in the 600 block of Judson Avenue Thursday afternoon.

Police say residents of the house told them four or five men forced their way into the home and one claimed there was a fire in the back of the building while others begain to rummage through drawers looking for items of value.

One of the men told the male victim they needed money for drugs and one removed a small amount of money from the male victim’s pants pocket.

During the commotion, Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther says, the female victim tried to call police but one of the assailants grabbed the phone from her and broke it.

As the robbers continued to search the house, one victim was able to flee the building, flag down a passing vehicle and notify police.

Once the offenders realized police had been contacted, they fled the scene.

Police searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects, who were described as being of Middle Eastern or European descent and in their 30s or 40s.
