Evanston police say a 32-year-old homeless man is being held without bond on an attempted murder charge in connection with a stabbing incident at the McDonald’s restaurant on Howard Street.
Cmdr. Ryan Glew says that about 9:15 p.m. Saturday police were called to the restaurant at 1117 Howard after what started as a verbal dispute inside the restaurant led to a victim being stabbed several times, sustaining life-threatening injuries to the abdomen.
Glew says the assailant had fled on foot by the time officers arrived. The victim, a 41-year-old Evanston man, was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
On Tuesday, Glew says, police arrested Olanrewaju Oshiga on an unrelated matter. Noticing that Oshiga matched a photo of the assailant in the stabbing, detectives interviewed Oshiga and, Glew says, he admitted to having stabbed the victim.
Oshiga is scheduled to appear in Skokie district court at 10:30 a.m. on April 11.
