A newly released report ranks Evanston-based NorthShore University HealthSystem as one of the top 100 hospitals in the country.

The NorthShore won in the category of major teaching hospitals in the Thomson Reuters report. That category also included three other Chicago-area winners — Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Northwestern Memorial Hospital of Chicago and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital of Park Ridge.

Overall, 12 of the top 100 hospitals in the study are located in Illinois.

Thomson Reuters says the study uses “objective research and independent public data” to identify the winners.

The study evaluates hospitals on factors including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability and compares hospitals against similar facilities in terms of size and teaching status.

The publisher claims that if all hospitals performed at the same level ast the top 100 award winners nearly 116,000 additional patients would survive each year.

Crain’s Chicago Business says NorthShore University HealthSystem has made the top 100 list in 15 of the 18 years the study has been conducted, the best record of any hospital nationwide.

  1. Their billing practices tend

Their billing practices tend to be a little over the top, though. I got a bill more than a year after I thought it was settled. Even as I was assured it was settled, the letters got nastier and nastier. Additionally, they have been sued by the FTC for having a monopoly in the field and have not settled even now.
