Saint Francis Hospital has renewed its exclusive health sponsorship contract with Westfield Old Orchard Mall in Skokie and will offer a summer walking club every Saturday this summer.

The summer walking club meets at the Orchard Food Court from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. June 7 – Sept. 27.

In possibly the most beautiful way to stay fit, walkers can hike laps through a designated one-mile course around the mall’s sunny, award-winning landscaping; share coffee, conversation, and camaraderie with others in the club; and window-shop for slim-fitting clothes when all the calories are burned.

The free program is open to the public and all fitness levels are encouraged to join at any time during the summer. Membership includes exclusive mall discounts, freebies, and lots of health information.

Registration is strongly suggested by calling 1-877-RES-INFO.

Thanks, St. Francis, for encouraging people to leave Evanston for Skokie to walk around the mall. What’s wrong with walking around downtown Evanston or walking from the hospital to the Main St. business district? Why would you encourage people to (likely) drive to Old Orchard, burning up carbon, increasing ozone emissions that can contribute to the respiratory diseases a hospital is supposed to prevent?

Encouraging people to drive 7 miles from a pedestrian friendly city to walk around a mall is insane.
