The Evanston History Center held its annual Ice Cream Social Saturday afternoon on the lawn of the Dawes Mansion at 225 Greenwood St.

The event featured entertaiment for the kids from magician Keith Cobb, and a walking tour of the old homes and public buildings in the neighborhood.

  1. Ice cream is nice
Very nice, I am all for ice cream- even though I find Mr. Oberweis’ politics – and his dishonest campaign tactics – to be extremely distasteful. This looks like a harmless, fun affair.

But really, where is the ‘history lesson’ ?

While it is nice that the kids had a good time, this once again brings up the question: what is the purpose of the Evanston Historical Center? To host ice cream parties, preserve an old house, and maintain a costume collection?

I hope that the board members of the EHC will answer this question. Does EHC have any historical mission, or is it just a social group dedicated to preserving an old house?
