The monthly Evanston 5th Ward meeting will blend politics with sweets this Thursday.
The ward meeting, hosted by Alderman Delores Holmes, will feature the group’s annual ice cream social along with scheduled appearances by candidates running for the state house seat being vacated by long-time incumbent Julie Hamos.
If you’d like to prep for the chance to ask the candidates questions, be sure to catch Evanston Now’s video interviews with the candidates that will start appearing later this week.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster St.
Also scheduled to appear are Bill Stafford, the finance director for Evanston Township High School, and Sol Anderson, the coordinator of youth programs for the city.
Video interviews?

Bill, have the interviews taken place yet?
If not, I wonder if you take requests for questions.
I would like all of the candidates (especially Mr. Smith, who defended the firefighters’ involvement in the mayoral race) to say what they would do to solve the pension crisis.
Specifically, would they favor moving public employees away from the defined benefit programs and over to something like a 403b or 401k?
[My guess is that no serious candidate in a Democratic primary wants to pick a fight with the unions.]
