Evanston city forestry crews are inspecting trees across the city today in the wake of the overnight ice storm and with high winds expected this afternoon.

Edgar Cano of the city’s Public Works Agency says a mix of freezing rain, snow and sleet is likely to continue through mid-day and then turn to all snow by mid to late afternoon.

We could see an additional half inch of accumulation today and another half inch overnight.

Cano says crews are currently plowing and spreading as needed and have started to shift to side streets.

Residents can call 311 to report any tree issues or other concerns.

Update 9:45 a.m.: ComEd reports more than 800 customers without power in northwest Evanston in an area around Noyes Street and Pioneer Road. It also reports several much smaller outages in northwest and south Evanston.
