Update 5:20 p.m.: Evanston police late this afternoon identified the woman whose body was found Monday in an alcove outside First United Methodist Church as 49-year-old Tanuel Major.

Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew says Major was homeless at the time of her death but frequented Evanston.

Following an autopsy, the medical examiner ruled that the manner of death was homicide, and the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

Glew says the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force is assisting Evanston police with the investigation. He says the investigation indicates the homicide is an isolated incident but that no one is in custody.
