Two armed robbers took pity on their 74-year-old victim and returned his cash and cell phone, Evanston police reported.
The incident took place last night in an alley in the 400 block of Callan Avenue.
The victim had just parked his car and was walking home when he was approached by two men at about 9:45 p.m., according to Cmdr. Jay Parrott.
When the robbers displayed a red-tipped handgun, the man gave them seven dollars in cash and his cell phone.
“Is that all you’ve got?” the robbers asked.
“Yep,” answered the victim.
“Well, here, take your money back.”
“What about my cell phone?”
They gave that back to him as well, Parrott said.
The two suspects then walked away, according to the police report.
