Holiday wreaths being installed on light poles on Davis Street downtown.

Lots of Halloween decorations are still on display around Evanston, but the downtown shopping district is starting to look at least a bit ready for the end-of-year holidays.

Holiday wreaths were being installed on light poles around downtown this week by employees working for a contractor for Downtown Evanston. And city crews were removing the bollards from the bike lanes, in anticipation of the snow that’s sure to come.

If you’re looking for ways to get in the holiday spirit, there’s a ribbon cutting at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Santa for a Day location on Church Street.

Downtown Evanston’s holiday window decorating contest kicks off on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 20, and the annual holiday tree lighting ceremony at Fountain Square is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4.
