Jewel-Osco announced today that it’s acquiring five more of the shuttered Dominick’s supermarkets in the Chicago area — including one just across the city line from Evanston.

The Chicago store close to Evanston is at 1763 Howard St., near the Howard Red Line station.

Jewel also announced plans to acquire stores at 424 W. Division in Chicago; 3243 S. 115th St. in Merionette Park; 800 Northwest Highway in Fox River Grove and 345 S. Rand Road in Lake Zurich.

The announcement was first reported by the Chicago Tribune.

Jewel parent New Albertson’s today also named Shane Sampson president of its Jewel-Osco division.

Still no word on a future operator for the former Dominick’s in the Evanston Plaza shopping center.

Whole Foods has reached an agreement to take over the former Domick’s location on Green Bay Road in Evanston.
