  1. Fire station staffing

    The Wall Street Journal Aug. 8 has an editorial about various spending items.  One is the staffing of fire stations. 

    It is not about Evanston, but does bring up a question often asked.  Are all the staffing needed and are resources being correctly used?  Cities described re-evaluated the staffing and use, given the types of calls that are made—a low proportion being fires. 

    The cities recognized they don't need fire trucks and ambulances sent to each scene—heart attacks, other medical, bike accidents, other accidents where car fires were not possible.  Cities found a proper allocation and policy and reduced their costs, but not effectiveness.
