Kelly enters state house race

Evanston resident Eamon Kelly plans to kick off his campaign for the state house Saturday.

Kelly, 28, will hold a rally for supporters at 11 a.m. at Boocoo Cafe, 1823 Church St.

Other announced candidates in the race to succeed incumbent 18th District Rep. Julie Hamos include Jeff Smith and Patrick Keenan-Devlin.

Kelly, an attorney and life-long Evanston resident, says he wants to bring a new generation of progressive leadership to a political system in Illinois that is mired in gamesmanship and infighting.

He says he wants to see greater transparency and accountability in state government.

“To be able to represent the communities where I grew up, went to school and have now started a family of my own is a very thrilling prospect,” Kelly said.

Kelly says he’s already raised $35,000 from supporters. More information about the campaign is available on his website.
