Wet weather forced Evanston’s softball team to come back and play on both Tuesday and Wednesday at the Class 4A ETHS Regional tournament.
Molly Chambers made it worth the wait.

The freshman pitcher didn’t allow a single hit in six and one-third innings of relief and the Wildkits eliminated Maine East with a 9-1 triumph. Now 22-11 on the season, Evanston will play either Chicago Taft or Trinity in the regional championship game set for Saturday at 10 a.m.

Chambers took over in the first inning on Tuesday after starter Grace Elwood yielded the only Maine East run and only lasted two-thirds of an inning. Rain forced a 24-hour postponement in the third, after Evanston had recovered to take a 4-1 lead.

Overall, Chambers struck out 12 of the 19 batters she faced to earn the win.

On offense, the winners were led by Lucy Hart and Meg Eisfelder, who both went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Hannah Schaps also singled twice in the romp.
